Privacy policy

How Qwahabedi handles personal information under POPIA (Protection of Personal Information Act, 2013).

Working draft.

This text is a placeholder pending review by an attorney familiar with online platforms. It states what the system actually does today, but it is not yet legal advice or a final policy.

Who we are

Qwahabedi is a community portal for QwaQwa in the eastern Free State. The information officer is Teboho Radebe, reachable at takedown@qwahabedi.co.za.

What we collect

  • Your phone number when you create an account. This is how you sign in — email is optional and never required.
  • Your home village, so that notices and events default to where you live.
  • What you post: listings, events, classifieds and the like, together with who posted them.
  • Basic usage counts on listings (views, phone taps, direction taps) so business owners can see whether the directory works for them. These are daily totals, not a record of individuals.

What we do not do

  • We do not run advertising trackers or third-party analytics scripts.
  • We do not sell or rent personal information.
  • We do not publish anybody's profile without that person's own recorded consent.
  • We do not display contact details collected purely to ask someone's permission — those are deleted once the request is closed.

Cookies

This site uses two cookies, and both of them are necessary for it to work at all:

  • A session cookie, which remembers that you are signed in as you move between pages.
  • A security token, which lets us tell a form you really submitted from one somebody else tried to submit on your behalf.

There are no advertising cookies and no third-party analytics cookies, so there is nothing here for you to switch off. If that ever changes, we will ask you first and you will be able to say no.

Consent-first profiles

Where the site honours people from a village, the person themselves must consent before anything is published. If they decline, the nomination is archived, their contact details are deleted, and they are never contacted about it again.

Your rights

You may ask what we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete your account and posts. Write to takedown@qwahabedi.co.za and we will respond within a reasonable period. You may also complain to the Information Regulator of South Africa.

Keeping information

Posts stay up while they are current. Expired classifieds and past events are archived. Account information is kept while the account is open and removed on request.
